Fortitude Psychological Therapy

Angela Johnson
EMDR Accredited Consultant Supervisor
BABCP Accredited CBT Therapist
I am an experienced Therapist and EMDR Consultant Supervisor with over a decade of experience in private practice and over 18 years in clinical practice.
I have worked with adults, children, and young people presenting with a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties, with a particular interest in trauma and trauma recovery.
Alongside my clinical work, I am actively involved in the development of the profession. I am currently Chair of the EMDR West Midlands Regional Group and I also provide supervision for CBT trainees undertaking a High Intensity CBT University programme.
I am passionate about supporting therapists in their professional development in CBT and EMDR and creating a nurturing and warm supervisory relationship that promotes confidence and growth.
My Experience
I have been working independently in private practice since 2014, receiving referrals from a variety of healthcare providers, referral agencies, and self-referring clients.
I have extensive experience delivering CBT and EMDR therapy to individuals experiencing a broad range of mental health difficulties, including anxiety disorders, depression, grief, trauma, PTSD, and complex trauma. I completed my EMDR training in 2016 and have since worked extensively with clients who have experienced a variety of traumatic events and adverse life experiences.
I have undertaken advanced EMDR training and consultation, developing specialist knowledge in the assessment and treatment of complex trauma, attachment difficulties, emotional neglect, and dissociative presentations. My clinical work frequently involves supporting clients who experience shame, self-criticism, emotional dysregulation, dissociation, and longstanding patterns that have developed in response to difficult early life experiences.
My therapeutic approach is integrative, drawing primarily on CBT and EMDR, while also incorporating elements of transactional analysis and nervous system regulation approaches where appropriate. I am particularly interested in helping clients make sense of their experiences through a trauma-informed lens, understanding not only what happened to them, but how those experiences continue to shape their thoughts, emotions, relationships, and sense of self.
I value curiosity, authenticity, and continual learning, and I enjoy helping therapists integrate evidence-based approaches into their practice while remaining responsive to the individual needs of their clients. My experience in both CBT and EMDR allows me to support therapists working with a wide range of presentations, particularly trauma-related difficulties.
My clinical style is warm, collaborative, and down to earth. I aim to create a safe and compassionate space where clients and supervisees feel understood and supported, while also helping them develop practical skills and insights. I believe therapy and supervision should be tailored to the individual rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach.
